]]> The format 0f this event is very simple, clean and polish your pride and joy, drive it to the event venue, clean and polish it again and sit back whilst extremely diligent judges assess your car against a good number of similar entries. Whilst the judges are doing their very best to evaluate your efforts you can enjoy a browse around many other vehicles that are displaying, or chat with friends and similar minded individuals.

One thing is for sure, however, if you don’t win you will have a great time and there is always next year. By the way, some of us don’t take this too seriously and we wash our car and thus when we attend we simply marvel at the efforts of those who practice this brilliant art.

]]> Nene Valley Railway was the venue for the 2018 Drive your Classic Car Day celebrated by Lincolnshire MG members. Most people participated in a scenic drive starting from five locations to arrive at Wansford Station, near Peterborough. The 38 MGs participating were treated to their own dedicated parking area providing a spectacular display of vehicles for the public to enjoy. Members enjoyed a walking treasure hunt around the station environs, a Pride of Ownership Competition, a guided tour of the signalbox and a steam train journey.

Winners of the Treasure Hunt, Theresa and Mark Bellamy said, “The clues were extremely challenging this year but we managed to find them all and identify the photographs too”. The Pride of ownership competition was won by the MG RV8 of David Allen with the MGB LE50 of Paul Darley second and the MGB of Brian Clifton third.

]]> National Drive It Day was created by the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs in 2005.  It is the occasion when historic vehicle enthusiasts and the public at large have the opportunity to celebrate the One Thousand Mile Trial organised in 1900 to prove the viability of the new invention, the motor vehicle. It’s also a chance to raise awareness and support amongst the public for the historic vehicle movement and keeping transport heritage on UK roads.

]]> Scatter rallies are a wonderful way to have a few hours of competitive entertainment.

Each entry requires a driver a navigator and a car. Also required is an ordinance survey map (about £3 from eBay) a pencil, ruler, rubber and for most of us older generation a magnifying glass is a good optional extra.

Each team a given around 20 to 25 plots to find on the map and they must then choose a selection of around 15 to 20 to visit in as short a route as possible. At each plot on the route the team needs to solve a small clue and record the answer.

The winners are the team that get the most clues correct in the shortest mileage recorded.
